Memorial Day

For Memorial Day, I went to the Bennett Place in Durham (Civil War Site) and got to watch reenactors in uniforms from several wars demonstrate the guns used in their particular time periods. They were all good sports about me sticking a camera in their faces, and had very interesting facts they were willing to share.

The day was fun, sunny, and loud!

Raleigh Artsplosure 2012

It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been to the Raleigh Artsplosure, and it has really grown! The first time I went, it only circled Moore Square. Now it’s branching off into side streets with artists, food vendors, performers and drum circles.

Special Thanks to Nelson R Smith and Dan Murphy for allowing me to photograph their sculptures!

Crazy weekend! Part 1 — The zoo

So I went home Mother’s Day weekend, and it was a whirlwind of photography! My mom is the one that actually got me into this – she gave me a Nikon D70’s for my birthday.

Friday we went to the Pittsburgh Zoo, and learned a very important lesson: get there as early as possible! We got there around lunchtime and had to battle… battalions of kids out on field trips. Not only that, but the afternoon heat had the animals taking a little siesta… and snoring lions, no matter how pretty, don’t make for good photographs.

Dog & Pony

Last Saturday I went out to Fred’s place — his neighbors have some gorgeous horses; Fred has a gorgeous dog. I decided to play around with my wide-angle lens & I’m highly amused on how the horses turned out! The critters were very sweet (and very nosy), and Timber the husky was very playful & affectionate. I don’t understand, though, why they all tried to lick the camera….
